How To Make Coffee Cake With Coffee
Here is a brief baking method that guides you through each step with clarity to get an amazing coffee cake with coffee with lots of flavors:
1. Make The Coffee Streusel / Crumb
To begin, preheat your oven to 350F (conventional) and prepare a 9×9″ baking pan by lining up how to make coffee cake with coffee with parchment paper. Combine the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and espresso powder in a bowl.
Then, add cold cubed butter and use your hands to rub the ingredients until the mixture resembles crumbs. Be careful not to overdo it, as we want to avoid the crumble turning into dough. You can use a food processor if you are okay with washing an extra dish.
2. Make The Coffee Cake With Coffee Batter
To start, vigorously mix the butter, oil, and sugar in a bowl for about 1-2 minutes until they turn nearly white and become fluffy. I usually do coffee&cake manually, but you can also use an electric hand mixer. Next, add the eggs, egg white, and vanilla into the mixture, and continue whisking for approximately another minute until everything is thoroughly blended.
Now, add the dry ingredients flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Carefully mix until everything is combined. The batter will be thick but don’t panic, we’re not done yet. Pour in the sour cream and hot coffee and whisk or fold until well combined. Use your spatula to smooth out any lumps of sour cream, but be cautious not to overmix and make the batter tough.
3. Assemble The Cake
To start, evenly distribute half of the cake batter into the pan. Make sure the cake recipe with coffee covers the entire surface. Next, sprinkle half of the coffee streusel mixture on top. If the streusel has solidified in the fridge, gently break the easy coffee cake recipe with coffee into crumbs before sprinkling.
Now, spoon the remaining half of the cake batter and spread it over the streusel layer. This part of baking cake with coffee in it can be a little challenging since it’s hard to spread the batter on top of a dry streusel, but spooning it in a layer will make coffee flavored coffee cake easier. At the end, sprinkle the remaining streusel mixture over the top.
4. Bake The Instant Coffee Coffee Cake
Bake the cake for around 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs attached. The baking time might differ based on the type of pan you are using. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 15 to 20 minutes before carefully taking it out. Then, place the coffee cake using coffee on your serving stand.
5. Drizzle With Coffee Icing
It’s up to you, but I enjoy pairing this with a basic coffee glaze. Just combine powdered sugar and coffee until you get a thick icing, then pour it over the cake with a spoon. Don’t forget to cut a slice and enjoy! I prefer eating it warm.
The Story Behind This Coffee And Coffee Cake
I’m curious if all foreigners can identify with this situation of trying coffee cake using coffee for the first time in the US: I eagerly anticipate coffee cake, I try it, only to discover that it doesn’t contain any coffee at all, but this is a cinnamon streusel. While the cinnamon variety of this cake is tasty, it’s a bit misleading for a cake named “coffee cake” to lack coffee flavor.
When I decided to make a this cake, I realized that simply making a cinnamon cake might not meet everyone’s expectations and most people will wonder does coffee cake have coffee in it. However, I also wanted to preserve the delightful texture of an American coffee cake. That’s why I decided to develop a recipe that combined the best elements of both, and this is what I came up with!
I like eating chocolate but this cake recipe is my favorite after preparing my own version.
How do you store coffee cake with instant coffee?
You can keep this cake fresh by storing it in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days, or for up to a week in the refrigerator.
What is a substitute for sour cream?
You have the option to replace the sour cream with a blend of half-heavy cream and half-full-fat yogurt while making this cake. Another alternative is to make your sour cream by combining 1 cup of heavy cream, ¼ cup of milk, and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, then storing it in an airtight jar at room temperature for 1 day.
Why is my streusel / crumble looking more like a dough?
If you mix the crumble/streusel mixture too much, the butter may melt in the coffee cake recipe. The key is to keep the butter cold and gently incorporate it into the dry ingredients, breaking it into tiny pieces. If your streusel resembles dough, there’s no need to fret. Simply refrigerate it and then crumble it into smaller chunks once it has cooled down.
What is a substitute for brewed coffee?
To prepare black coffee, simply mix hot water with instant espresso powder according to the instructions on the coffee packaging to know how many teaspoons to add to use in the recipe of cake made with coffee.
